Weekend Recap

Friday afternoon we headed to Chick-fil-a for dress like a cow day.  This has been something I have wanted to do for a while, but something always seemed to come up.  We each got a free meal for dressing like a cow, and Chick-fil-a made it easy by putting printables on their website.

Saturday morning Hallie and I headed to the park for a playdate with some other girls.  Hallie loves to swing and would be happy to do that the whole time.  We went to this particular park so that we could ride the train.  The train was supposed to start running at 11:00.  We ended up leaving after 12:00 when the train still hadn’t showed up.  Such a bummer.

After the park, we headed to a friend’s house so that we could discuss a children’s clothing sale we are organizing.  While there, Hallie was running down the hall and fell on the tile.  Her teeth cut into the inside of her upper lip and her nose bruised.  Her nose was just getting better from falling outside the week before.  This child is always on the run.  We need to wrap her up in a plastic bubble.

I tried for some pics before church on Sunday, but sister wasn’t having it.  Thankfully she was in a better mood by the time we got to church.  I was able to get a decent pic in the church bathroom.

After church, we went out for lunch.  We had fun taking some selfies while waiting for our food.

At night time I picked up Bryson from his dad.  I headed to the grocery store with both kiddos.  I was quickly reminded why I prefer to go grocery shopping alone.

Here’s to another week!!!

Friday Five

ONE I got a smoothing treatment a couple of weeks ago.  I am LOVIN it!!  It was a little pricey, but I think it was worth every single penny.  My hair is naturally curly and frizzy.  I straighten my hair nearly every day.  The picture on the left is my hair washed and blow dried before the treatment.  The picture on the right is my hair wash and blow dried after the treatment.  My hairdresser did not use a brush when she blow dried my hair.  She just used her fingers.  After the picture was taken, she went over it with a flat iron and it looked even better.  This is going to save me tons of time when I straighten my hair.  I’m also hoping that my hair will be healthier.  I only have to go over it once with a flat iron.  Whereas before, I would have to go over it a few times.  It supposed to last for 12 weeks.

TWO My grandma recently passed away.  I got one of her rings.  I just adore this ring.  I love the vintage look.  But more than anything, I love that I have a special piece to remind me of her that I can pass along to Hallie.

THREE Hallie started swim lessons this week.  David has been taking her since it’s during my work hours, but I’ve been getting a full report every day.  Some days she does good, and other days she doesn’t.  That pretty much goes along with her fickle nature.

In this picture, she is telling the girl to stop splashing.  Not only is she fickle, but she's bossy too.  Oh, that finger!!

FOUR One of my goals for June was to read a book.  I’m happy to say I have already accomplished this goal.  I read Where’d You Go, Bernadette.  I enjoyed the book and would recommend it to others.  It’s a light humorous book.  Several times while reading the book, I thought…wow, this is a classic case of a communication breakdown.  I’m not quite sure that’s what the author intended for me to get out of it.  I normally read self-help books, so I guess I was looking for a lesson to learn.

FIVE I came across this picture and busted up laughing.  Yep, this is me.  And no, I don’t drink that much coke.  My office keeps cokes in the frig.  Everybody saves their caps for me.

Weight Loss Wednesday

I’ve been on this weight loss journey since the beginning of the year.  I started off counting calories without much success.  I only lost about 5 pounds in 2 and half months.  Then, I started a diet provided by my sister in law that used to be a professional body builder.  I lost 15 pounds in two months.  During those two months I learned so much about nutrition.  I’m not doing her diet anymore, but I am still following the same principals…lots of protein, low sugar, healthy carbs, etc.  Total I have lost 21 pounds, but over the last few weeks I have gained 3 pounds back.  This month my eating has not been on track due to vacation, a family death, and sickness.  It’s time to get back on track and knock those 3 pounds out plus more!!!

Goals for the week
100 ounces of water a day

Try protein pancakes

Workout at least 5 times

Log all food in My Fitness Pal

I am participating in Skinny Meg’s challenge and I’m LOVIN it.  She had a challenge to see who could do the most pushups (not on the knees).  I pumped out 45.  I did not win, but I was happy with my number considering I haven’t done much strength training lately due to the same reasons why I’ve been eating badly.

She also gave a challenge to burn 1500 calories over the 3 day holiday weekend.  I went to the gym on Friday to kick start the challenge.  I usually go to the gym at lunch time.  The gym is very close to my work.  So, to drive to the gym from my house on my holiday off was a pretty big deal.  I wasn’t able to complete the challenge due to family activities on Saturday, but I did get one workout in that I normally wouldn’t have.  It’s the little things.

July 4th Weekend Recap

The weekend was jammed pack with family, friends, food, fireworks, and fun.

Our celebrations started Thursday night.  We headed down to the town’s firework show with my parents and my neighbor.

Hallie entertained herself with rocks until it got dark for the fireworks.  Oh, I need to remind myself not to park and sit in front of a big street light next year.  The fireworks would have been a lot more enjoyable without the bright light.

Friday morning I headed to the gym.  I needed to burn some extra calories for all the food consuming that was going to happen over the weekend.  After my workout, I picked up Bryson.  We had a little lunch date and bought some more fireworks for our Saturday get together.

The kids went to another fireworks show at night time with my parents.  David and I took that that time to enjoy a movie.  The opportunity rarely comes when we can sit down and enjoy a movie.  So we take it when we can.

We had family and friends over on Saturday.  I wanted this day to be all about fun and laughter.  I think it was a success.  Well, except for Hallie.  Homegirl had a few melt downs.  I divided everyone into teams, and we played fun games.  The winning team got a prize.  The highlight was when mom fell into the pool.  She fell while running during one of the games.  She got up and started running again without ever regaining her balance.  She stumbled a few steps and landed right in the baby pool.

Over/Under Game

There's a Hole in My Cup Game

Snack Toss Game

Hose Head Game

Frozen Shirt Game

We ran out of day light and didn't get to play all the games I had planned, but there's always next year.  Nacole and mom won the competition.

Sunday afternoon, the kids enjoyed leftover game supplies (soap, sponges, shower caps, and cups with holes in the bottom) in the pool.  We had leftovers for dinner and then lit the remaining fireworks.

I am sad that the weekend is over.  Monday is here and it’s back to the grind.

July Goals

Seriously, where the heck has June gone!!  This summer is just flying by and before you know it, it'll be Christmas.

I've decided to write down some goals for July.  I'm hoping this will make me more accountable, and I'll actually get a few things accomplished.

1. Read one book.  I know one is not much, but it's better than none.  I have a long list of books to read, so I shouldn't have a problem picking one.

2. Plan Hallie's birthday party.  I'm not quite sure if this should be a goal because obviously it's going to happen since her birthday is the beginning of August.  So I guess the goal is for stress free planning.  Is that possible?

3. Organize and downsize Hallie's closet.  Homegirl has more clothes than me.  She hardly ever wears an outfit more than once.  It's becoming a little overwhelming.  I mean...why would I want to do laundry when she has plenty of clean clothes...lol.

4.  Meal plan.  The end.

5. Send some snail mail.  I love getting snail mail.  Hopefully I can brighten someone else's day with a little surprise.

6. Buy at least 2 Christmas gifts.  It takes me forever to buy Christmas gifts because I spend so much time trying to find the perfect gift.  I'm trying to make December a little less stressful by spreading out purchases over the next several months.

I could probably add several more, but goals should be realistic.
